The B+ Family Assistance Program

In the past two weeks alone, I’ve signed over 150 checks to help families of a child with cancer avoid eviction, keep their car so that they can take their child to the hospital for chemo, purchase necessary medicine that insurance won’t cover, keep the electricity on, and sadly, assist with funeral expenses so that families can send off their child in a timely and dignified manner.  It can be so depressing, but I’m really glad that you all, the B+ Nation, have come together to make this possible.  I just sign the checks…you make it possible.

We recently helped 9 year old Anthony.  Anthony was diagnosed with leukemia 2 1/2 years ago.  His family is working as much as they can, but their income is very low.  His cancer has relapsed THREE times and he is now preparing for his second stem cell transplant.  Believe it or not, Anthony’s older brother died of cancer a few years ago.  Anthony’s family asked us to help pay their rent and I am proud to say that we did.  Anthony’s family will be one of about 2,500 families that The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation will help.  Thank you for enabling us to help these families.

Jefferson Medical College

I had the privilege of making my annual visit to Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia to be their First Year Medical Student Orientation Week speaker on the “Perspective of a Patient Family”.  We need great doctors and if my talk can make just one doctor just a little better, it was worth my time.  Thank you for inviting me.

For me and my family, every month is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  But, on the calendar, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  It will be a busy month with events in DC and various local events around the country.  If you live in DE/MD/PA, come join us at any of the Seasons Pizza locations during September where you’ll be able to add $1, $3, or $5 to your meal to benefit The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.  And, as if that’s not enough, you’ll get to see a picture of my handsome, curly-haired boy on every table!  And, for those in Wilmington, DE, come out to Concord Mall Chick-fil-A where you can support B+ with a hangtag on the wall all throughout September as well.

September is also Andrew’s birthday month!  September 3rd is Andrew’s 26th birthday.

12th Annual B+ Foundation Golf Outing, Dinner, & Auction

It’s only fitting that our event is in September — September 24th to be exact, at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, DE.  PLEASE reach out to me ( if you’re interested in becoming a sponsor (at any level) or if you have any cool stuff you would like to donate for our Silent Auction.  We would love to get sports tickets (especially Eagles), travel vouchers or donation of your airline miles, unique experiences (I.e. chef comes to your house), or really valuable household services (I.e. gift certificates for house painting, mulching spreading, etc.) that might be part of your business or that of your friends.

If you’d like to register to join us for the day as a golfer or just the evening for cocktails and dinner, please register here.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and get ready to pull out your GOLD to wear in September for the kids!

Thanks for your support, B+ Nation!
