A Special Gift at the B+ 5k
The 13th Annual B+ 5k was a HUGE success last Wednesday night. The forecast did not look good, but we didn't have one drop of rain. THANK YOU ANDREW! We had over 1,800 participants and over $100,000 was raised. Thank you to all of our sponsors and participants. I think everyone had a really good time. As always, the highlight of the night is when we get a chance to honor our B+ Heroes and Sibling Heroes. It was a special bonus to hear from B+ Hero, Reena Robinson, this year.
Prior to the race, my family and I received a TREMENDOUS gift. We have SO many great memories of Andrew but, as you know, our memories with Andrew here stopped 12 years ago. So, when anyone tells us a story about Andrew or shares a picture that we haven't seen, it's a tremendous gift. A young lady and her mother walked up to me and introduced themselves. The young lady, Julia, was a classmate and friend of Andrew's in kindergarten. She told us that Andrew attended her 6th birthday party at Ashland Nature Center in May, 1998 and he was in a lot of the video footage from her party. I had tears in my eyes and my heart started racing as she handed me a DVD that she made for us. It's 20+ minutes of footage, 90% of which has Andrew in it. Seeing my then little 5 year old boy was such a joy! Here's a screen shot from the video! Thank you so much, Julia! If anyone else has any photos or video of Andrew that we haven't seen, we would desperately love to see them. Thank you.
