Psychosocial supports play a critical role in the well-being of children with cancer, addressing their emotional, social, and psychological needs throughout their treatment and beyond. These supports can provide a sense of normalcy, reduce anxiety and stress, and promote resilience in children facing the challenges of cancer.

By addressing the holistic needs of these children, psychosocial supports contribute to their overall quality of life and enhance their ability to cope with the physical and emotional impact of their diagnosis.

This eBook is a valuable tool for schools supporting a student with cancer, providing comprehensive information and guidance on how to create an inclusive and supportive environment. It aims to educate teachers, staff, and students about the unique needs and challenges faced by children with cancer, fostering empathy and understanding.

Additionally, it offers practical strategies and supportive resources for schools to implement, ensuring that children with cancer receive necessary accommodations, emotional support, and educational continuity during their treatment.

 

Peer Support Groups

The B+ Foundation is proud to offer virtual peer support groups. These groups are not therapy and are not intended to replace formal mental health counseling for the participants. Instead, these groups offer an opportunity for individuals with similar life experiences to connect and share their experiences.

There will be groups for the child diagnosed with cancer, their siblings, their parents, and bereaved families. *These groups will be offered at no cost to families.*

School Support Services

We also offer consultative services with Dr. Ali McDonough, a clinical psychologist and school psychologist, if teachers or school staff need additional support.
