Research Makes a Difference!

B+ Hero Maggie

“Please accept our thanks for so kindly providing financial help for our family.

Less than a month ago, Maggie was diagnosed with B-ALL, and it’s been a vortex of treatment and side effects.

When I (Lauren) saw our social worker’s email yesterday, I looked up The B+ Foundation and just wept from what I read. Andrew and I were both born in 1992, and God has used his life to bless us all these years later.

With gratitude,

Lauren, Dmitriy, and Maggie”

Research Update

It’s been a very busy few weeks on the research front. Even though I’m not a scientist, I’ve learned so much over the past 17 years and I find the research so exciting. Two weeks ago, Carly and I traveled to the SIOP Congress, the largest international pediatric cancer conference. I wouldn’t be able to guess how many people or countries were represented there. And, last week, I had the pleasure of attending the ACCELERATE meeting at the European Medicines Agency (EMA…like our FDA in the US) in Amsterdam. As you may recall, we are the primary funder of this initiative that brings together industry, regulators, academics, and advocates to ‘accelerate’ drug development. We had over 120 people in person and about 50 attending remotely, representing dozens of countries. While in the Netherlands, I traveled to Utrecht to visit Europe’s largest pediatric cancer hospital, the Princess Maxima Center. The Princess Maxima Center has only been open for about 6 years and it is a really impressive facility.

We are in the final stages of selecting our 10 research grants through our latest grant cycle. I will update you in a few weeks on the awardees. Very exciting!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Say a prayer for me on Sunday as I represent the kids - my bosses - as I cover the 26.2 miles of the NYC Marathon.
