I find comfort in seeing all of the B+ shirts and stickers throughout our local community and appreciate the “Where’s Waldo?”-like aspect of B+ supporters sending us their pictures from their trips around the country and world.  Thank you for spreading the B+ story.  As you will see from the picture on the left, we are HONORED to show a picture of a brave American soldier in Afghanistan sporting a B+ shirt.  Stay safe and thank you!

As I hope you will recall, thanks to your generosity, The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation awarded a $250,000 research grant to the Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer (NCCCR) in 2009.  I am pleased to report that a discovery has been realized already from the equipment that we helped purchase.  I’m not smart enough to do justice to this discovery, but I have been told that this has led the researchers to receive a six figure grant from another organization to build upon this progress.  I don’t mean to imply that cures for childhood cancers are right around the corner, but the process is a journey of building upon discoveries to construct the building.  If we can help build the 20th floor of this skyscraper of the cure for childhood cancer, we did the right thing.  And, as I’ve told MANY people, I don’t care who gets to plant the flag on top.  I just want ALL of these childhood cancers to be eradicated.  Our grants are bearing fruit already…which is exceedingly quick.  Congratulations to all the dedicated folks at NCCCR.  We will NOT stop until all childhood cancers are cured!

Thanks to Sherry Monahan, B+ Hero Fiona’s Mom, The B+ Foundation has been selected as a finalist in Citgo’s “Fueling Good” Contest.  Citgo is awarding over $10,000 in gas cards to worthy charities.  All you have to do is click on the link below, look for the “Vote Today” in the top right, and then find Andrew’s picture or enter “B+” in the search box, and vote for us.  We might win a lot of gas cards that could go to families of children with cancer to help lighten their financial load.  Thanks for your support and thank you very much to the Monahan family!

With the holiday last week, I didn’t get a chance to post our “Featured Family of the Week”…so I’m doing it in the middle of this week to cover for both weeks.

I would like to introduce you to a new friend – 5 yr old Chelsey.  Chelsey was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (brain tumor) this past July.  Chelsey and her family travel 150 miles roundtrip daily for her chemo and radiation treatment.  Dad is out of work and Mom earns $10,000 a year as a waitress.  When Chelsey’s feeling a little better, Mom plans on working more hours.  Right now, though, Chelsey is very, very scared about all of the treatments and procedures and needs her family with her.  Thanks to your generosity, The B+ Foundation has sent a check to cover 2 car payments totalling $458.64, thus allowing the family the necessary transportation for this little girl’s treatment.  Making these car payments is just like buying this brave little girl her medicine, because without the transportation to get the 150 miles roundtrip for treatment, she won’t get the chance to fight this terrible brain tumor.  Thank you for your support.
