Fri. Feb. 1st

Thank you very much for all of the kind notes regarding this difficult week.  Jan 29, 2007 is my ‘day that will live in infamy’.

On a personal note, Chris, Ali, and I returned last week from a trip to Israel.  An amazing place…I’ll post about it next week.  But, there’s more pressing news to report today.

Research Progress

An article appears in the January 2013 issue of Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, about some exciting work being done by Dr. Ken Lucas and his team.  Please take a look at this work as featured in a Medical News Today article from this week.  We are very proud to co-fund this research with Solving Kids Cancer and the Peirce Phillips Charity.  This is really exciting.  B+ Nation, you all should feel very proud for having played a part in making this research happen.  Congratulations.

Calling NJ Families of Kids with Cancer

A New Jersey family is trying to gather data on NJ families who are battling childhood cancers.  One of the objectives of this fact-finding is to see if any clusters (geographic, cancer type, etc) are apparent.  New Jersey families of kids with cancer should please email kellylynnterry@msn.com for more information or to participate.

New Resource for Families of Kids with Cancer

If you know of a family who has a young child battling cancer, please feel free to share the link below with them.  KidsHealth, a unit of Nemours, has produced a 12 minute video for young children who are about to embark upon this terrible journey with cancer.  The video is very professionally done and addresses many of the concerns facing kids and their families.

Inaugural High School B+ Dance Marathon

I’m really excited to report that tomorrow (Sat. Feb. 2nd) will be our inaugural high school B+ Dance Marathon.  The Charter School of Wilmington is leading the way and we will have upcoming high school events in Delaware at Appoquinimink, St. George’s, and Salesianum/Ursuline/Padua.  The high school events follow the same model as our successful collegiate events.  If you want to bring a B+ event to your school – high school or college- regardless of where you live, PLEASE contact me at Joe@LiveLikeAndrew.org.  These events are a great way to raise both awareness and money for the battle against childhood cancer AND give the students a life-changing experience.

Super Bowl Pick

I usually try to avoid wading into the controversial waters of elections, religion, and, yes, even sports.  People take their teams very seriously.  But, while I’m not saying that they’re going to win, I’ll tell you who we’re rooting for in this house.  It may not come as a surprise since we live only an hour or so north of the stadium, but the picture below will give you the answer.  My good buddy, Don DiRaddo, works for the Ravens and had us down to the practice facility back in 2005.  Here’s a picture of Andrew acting goofy at his ‘press conference’.  I really miss his goofiness.  I have other pictures, which I may post on FB, which show both Ali and Andrew wearing my friend Don’s 2001 Super Bowl ring.  To say it’s huge is a tremendous understatement.  The sun will probably still come up on Monday regardless of the outcome :), but I’m hoping my friend picks up a 2nd ring!  Go Ravens!
