Happy Birthday, Andrew!

September 3, 2022

30 years sounds like such a long time, but I truly remember September 3, 1992 so vividly. That’s because that day we were introduced to Andrew John McDonough. Unlike Ali, who arrived three weeks early, Andrew wasn’t in a hurry and came one day late.

As I have said many times, I felt like my family was complete when Andrew was born. As I did with Ali, I couldn’t help but think of what Andrew would be like and the limitless potential ahead of him. I hoped that he and his sister would be close and their friendship exceeded my greatest hopes. Andrew was everything I wanted in a son and, while he didn’t live long, he really did live well.

Today is Andrew’s 30th birthday. It is painful realizing that we only got to spend 14 of those birthdays together. I know Andrew is watching over us, but man, I miss his laugh, his smile, his voice, and his hugs. I just miss being in his company. Andrew made me – and other people – better.

In honor of Andrew, please be the best version of yourself today, and make someone’s life

better. And, if you’re interested in supporting our “Honoring Andrew” campaign, we would

appreciate your support of Andrew’s Foundation as we hope to raise $30,000 for his birthday. Thank you.
