Mon. June 13th
As you know from past Journal Updates, The B+ Foundation is very active on about 15 college campuses around the country. The B+ Foundation is one of the national philanthropies of a fraternity called Kappa Delta Rho (KDR). One of our KDR schools is Radford University in Virginia. I was floored when I learned last week that the Radford KDR President who has worked so hard to help us in the fight against childhood cancer has just been diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 19. Katie Wilson and I drove down to Fairfax, VA last Wed. to visit with Brian and his family. So ironic and so sad. Brian’s got a long, tough road ahead of him, but he’s a tough kid and has great family support. Please keep Brian in your prayers.

Congratulations to everyone from Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for super successful “Lemonade Days”. On Saturday, Ali and I attended an Alex’s Lemonade Stand in honor of Liam Kane and Aryn Strigle and then headed to Wynnewood, PA to support Jay Scott, Alex’s Dad, at the ORIGINAL Alex’s Lemonade Stand. ALSF is doing great things in the battle against childhood cancers.

Featured Family of the Week
We got the nicest picture and thank-you card from a Florida family. Mom and Rena moved to Philadelphia for Rena’s cancer treatment. The picture below shows little Rena being “finally reunited with Daddy and her little sister”, according to Mom. “Thank you for all you do for the childhood cancer community. It means the world to us.” B+ Nation – that note is for you. And, soak in the picture below. Is that a happy little girl or what?!!! You played a part in helping this family along this terrible journey.

Our “5th Annual B+ Fighting Childhood Cancer 5k Run/Walk” is almost here. The good news about that is that you won’t have to read my reminders about it much longer! 🙂 I’m sorry for being a pain in the butt, but would you believe that last Friday, I wrote out OVER $24,000 in checks for one week’s worth of Family Assistance Program applications! At that rate, we would need over $1.2 MILLION for the Family Assistance Program this year alone. I hate asking for money, but I hate seeing children die even more. I hate asking for money, but I hate reading about the pain and suffering of families with childhood cancers even more.
The 5k is this Thursday and, even though the online registration and contest closes tomorrow, we will continue to take online donations at this site for another week or so. If you can’t register by tomorrow, please join us on Thursday for ‘same day registration’. Wherever you are in the country or world reading this, please consider making a donation. Every dollar counts. Thanks.
