Mon. Oct. 31st
As you know, we have been blessed to be selected as the beneficiary of Northwestern University’s (NU) 2012 Dance Marathon. Last week, I traveled to Chicago where we had our first ‘adoption’ party where about a dozen Chicagoland B+ Heroes met their fraternity/sorority sponsors. It was great to see the B+ Heroes and their siblings having a blast and the NU students couldn’t have been nicer to the kids. We followed this up the following day with a visit to the oncology unit at the Univ of Illinois Children’s Hospital. It was a great visit and, as an added bonus, I got to run into Brendan and Robby from Indiana. Robby and Brendan are brothers who have both battled cancer and whose families has received support from The B+ Foundation.

I also had the privilege of presenting plaques of appreciation to 9 NAPA Service Pros. These 9 local NAPA car repair shops have adopted B+ Hero families and they each provided $1,000 in free car car for the families! When you’re running in and out of the hospital, you often overlook your car. Thanks, guys, for your generous support for our families.

A couple of important upcoming events:
Oct 31st
Archmere Academy and Dover High School will be playing a boy’s soccer game at Archmere to benefit The B+ Foundation. For the 3rd year in a row, both teams are getting together to raise awareness and funds for the battle against childhood cancers. Both teams will be wearing specially-made B+ tee shirts as their game uniforms. Thank you, Coach Paul Booton (Dover) and Coach Bob Bussiere (Archmere) for your continued support!!!

11/11/11 Party hosted by “Foundation 11”
A great, new philanthropic organization, “Foundation 11”, is hosting a casual party on 11/11/11 at the University of Delaware’s Arsht Hall from 7pm-11pm. There will be food, drinks, and great auction items. Arsht Hall is located at 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilmington. The cost to attend is…yes, you guessed it — $11. For more information, please visit http://www.foundation11.org/site/Event11-11-2011.php
Nov. 13th
Valleypoint Church is hosting a bone marrow drive on Sun. Nov. 13th from 9am-12:30pm at the Garnet Valley Middle School cafeteria. Assisting with the drive is B+ Hero, Joey B. and his family. There will also be a bake sale, so come meet Joey and do your part to extend a life. The testing is extremely simple (cheek swab with a Q-tip) and, IF you are a match for someone, most of the actual bone marrow donation procedures these days are done through your arms, not your hip bone. A little discomfort will extend a life….IF you’re picked. I’ve been on the Bone Marrow Registry for over 20 years…just waiting to be called.
Garnet Valley Middle School is located at 601 Smithbridge Rd in Garnet Valley, PA…just down the road from Bruster’s Ice Cream on Rt 202. Thank you, ValleyPoint Church!
