Ali shared with me a very interesting article about the development process of childhood cancer drugs.  This article, “Who’s Fighting Cancer in Kids?”, ran the other day in USA Today.  I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read this.

One of our B+ supporters has asked that I share a CaringBridge link for Kelsey Dimka, a young lady from MD who is battling osteosarcoma at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.  Please put this on your ‘to do’ list – ”Share some B+ love with Kelsey”.

I always enjoy speaking with kids and I had the privilege of speaking with the Villa Maria Academy (Malvern, PA) soccer team on Wed (and a few very nice kids from a Spirit United soccer team who joined them as well!).  They are a great group of young ladies and I think they really ‘got’ the B+/Live Like Andrew message.  Thank you, ladies, for allowing me to join you (and get you out of practice :)  )

The Hockessin Blast U-15 girls soccer team is holding their 3rd annual golf tournament on Fri. Oct. 22nd at the Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club.  The coaches of the team have been moved by the impact of YOUR Foundation and have decided to make The B+ Foundation a secondary beneficiary.  For more information, please contact melody@hockessinsoccerclub.com.  Thank you, HSC Blast, for your generosity.

Eagles Fly for Leukemia

As many of you may know, there is a local organization called “Eagles Fly for Leukemia” that was started 35 years ago by the Philadelphia Eagles.  This group is no longer run by the team, but this charity continues the fight against leukemia.  On Sat. Oct 16th, they are having a fundraiser at the FunPlex in Mt. Laurel, NJ.  There will be an appearance by Eagle, Winston Justice, and numerous games and fun activities.  For more information, please visit www.eaglesfly.org

Through your generosity and support, we have been able to help nearly 500 families of children with cancer from all over the country.  Every Friday, we review the ever-increasing stack of applications that we receive.  Starting today, I’m going to begin a weekly feature called “Featured Family of the Week” whereby I will share a little bit about a family that YOU have helped this week.

Today’s “Featured Family of the Week” is a family from Indiana.  Believe it or not, three of the family’s children have been diagnosed with cancer.  One of those three children, a 14 year old, has already gone to Heaven and another one, Drew, is now in hospice care.  Drew is an 18 year old battling a very aggressive metastatic osteosarcoma which has caused him to be paraplegic.  Through your support, we were able to pay $750 to help the family purchase a critical piece of equipment that the insurance company wouldn’t provide.  Please join me in praying for this family as they once again face life-and-death issues.

Live Like Andrew — Make a difference in the life of at least one person before you go to bed tonight!
