Proud!!!
This past weekend, we had 3 events that are very special to me.
Two of my three alma maters - the University of Delaware and Fordham University - held B+ events. UDance attracted about 6,000 people to The Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday as Blue Hens celebrated a year-long effort to raise awareness and money for The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and our fight against childhood cancers. And, boy did they ever! The students raised $2,019,210!!! We will be able to help thousands of families and fund exciting research because of these kids. It was an exciting day with University President Dennis Assanis & his wife Eleni joining us...and U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), two members of the WORLD CHAMPION Philadelphia Eagles, and a nice video message from B+ supporter and fellow Blue Hen, Vice President Joe Biden. And, the highlight for me was introducing nearly 50 B+ Heroes (kids with cancer) on the stage. It was a great day and I can't thank Co-Executive Directors Kelly Skettini, Nikki Dombrowski and the students enough.
Two days earlier at Rose Hill in The Bronx, Fordham University achieved a milestone. After raising $92,000 last year, they set a goal of breaking $100,000. And, they did it -- $101,643!!! I graduated from grad school at Fordham Lincoln Center 30 years ago...these student made me so proud to be an alum.
On Saturday, a school near and dear to me, Archmere Academy, held their annual B+ volleyball marathon. While I didn't attend Archmere, Archmere is located in the town that I grew up in - Claymont, DE. And, several of Andrew's closest friends attended Archmere. These students raised over $9,000! Thank you very much.
Keeping to the alma mater theme, my high school, Mt. Pleasant High School, will be holding their 2nd Annual "Dance the Knight Away" in another month or so. I am so proud to be associated with all of these schools.
I am SO inspired by students like these above and at schools all over the country, like St. Phillip's Episcopal Preschool in TX, who care enough to help us fight childhood cancers. Stay tuned...we have many more great school events to report on in the coming weeks. This is truly "Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer.™".
