Sat. March 26th
It’s hard to believe that we’re less than a week away from the start of another major league baseball season. To kick off the season in style, and help fight childhood cancer, Johnnie’s Dog House on Concord Pike in Wilmington is hosting a BIG “Phillies Opening Day Party”. Mark Raphaelson, owner of Johnnies is calling the day –
“The Quest for the World Series Championship – The Quest for Hot Dog Perfection – and The Quest for the Cure”.
Mark’s goal is to sell 2,011 hot dogs and $1 from each dog sold will go to The B+ Foundation’s fight to end childhood cancers. Please come out in your Phillies or B+ shirt from 11am-8pm Friday April 1st and help us earn $2,011. There will be prizes and other surprises!!!

As many of you know, when Andrew played for FC Delco, their home complex was the United Sports Training Center (USTC) in Downingtown, PA. It means so much to us that Dominic Popolizio and the folks at USTC have not forgotten Andrew. On June 25, 2011, USTC is hosting its first annual United Sports-a-Palooza, an ADULT sports festival. Teams will be competing in soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and flag football. This celebration will include live music, food and beverage, tailgating games, indoor activities for kids, and a beer/wine garden. Proceeds from the soccer portion of the ‘adult play day’ will go to Andrew’s foundation. Thanks, Dom and USTC, for keeping Andrew ‘alive’. I hope the B+ Nation will check out the link below and create a team and have some fun for a good cause.

Thank you for your patience – one more event to tell you about. A REALLY BIG EVENT!!! The online sight for the “5th Annual B+ Fighting Childhood Cancer 5k” is now live. This event is a LOT of fun. Free pizza, hot dogs, music, and best of all, a chance to honor true HEROES — B+ Heroes (kids fighting cancer)! Please start your team at the link below or support a team if you’re not able to make it. Remember, as we learned from our recent dance marathon, the best way to raise money is simply send out the letter (on the website) to everyone in your address book.

Thank you very much, St. Anthony’s School and Rob & Paul Niggebrugge (Warrior Baseball Program), for inviting me to speak with your groups this week. I hope you found the information about childhood cancer enlightening and the stories about Andrew and our mission both touching and, hopefully life-changing. Thank you, again, for your hospitality.

Finally, to our mission of helping families of children with cancer…
“Featured Family of the Week”
I could go into great detail on this child and her family, but I’m going to keep it brief. Sadie is a 3 ½ year old girl with a tumor. The doctors have told the family that the Sadie’s prognosis is very poor. The family has ‘re-located’ so that they can be near the hospital. When I say ‘re-located’, the family is actually homeless. Through the kindness and hard work of the hospital social worker, the family is staying at the hospital or a nearby hotel arranged for by the hospital. Dad is unemployed and Mom receives $500/month. The family needs assistance with the basics of survival and The B+ Foundation is helping them while Sadie literally fights for her life.
~~~~~~
Remember, 46 children were diagnosed with cancer yesterday. Just think what their families are thinking right now. What they don’t know yet, is that only 1 new childhood cancer drug has been approved by the FDA in the last 20 years! This is just unacceptable. Let’s do something about it.
Thanks for your support.
Live Like Andrew – make a difference in someone’s life today.
B+
