Sept 10 10

Just a friendly reminder — please come out and join us for a night of fun at Oasis Family Fun Center (Glen Mills, PA)on Monday, Sept 13th from 6-8pm.  The cost for kids is $15 and that basically gives you a run of the place.  Adults are FREE!  Proceeds benefit The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.  Thank you to the Borowski/Callahan family for organizing this event.

I would like to thank the Legal Department of the DuPont Company for inviting me to be their United Way kick-off speaker at their two meetings this week.  It’s my honor to go back in to “my Dad’s company” and spread the message about our fight against childhood cancer.  For everyone who work at companies that participate in the United Way campaign, we would GREATLY appreciate it if you would keep us in your giving plans.  Our local United Way write-in numbers are as follows:

  • United Way of Delaware - 11776

  • United Way of Southeastern PA - 47481

Thank you very much!

Thank you, also, to the St. Elizabeth’s School community for your hospitality last night at Back-to-School Night.  I appreciate the opportunity to discuss the B+ message with you and share some stories of our brave “B+ Heroes”.  Thank you for starting your school year off right with a Kind Joe B+ Coffee fundraiser.  What’s better than raising money for your school and helping to fight childhood cancer - one cup at a time!!!  Thanks.  I look forward to the opportunity to get other schools & teams on board with the coffee fundraiser.  It’s an easy way to make money for your group.  If you are interested, please contact me at Joe@livelikeandrew.org

In our often crazy world of religious intolerance, I found something interesting (at least to me )

Did you know that, for millions of people, the present time is a period of introspection, an opportunity to look at the mistakes of the past year, with an eye toward making changes to lead a better life?

Did you know that, for millions of people, the present time is a period to ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance, and seek spiritual help in refraining from everyday evils?

Sound similar?

Those two questions, paraphrased in my own words, represent two different faiths whose goals I found remarkably similar at the present time of the year.  I have purposely edited out certain words that would tip you off.  Having said that, do you know what two faiths and times of the year are represented by my two bits of layman’s research?  (Before anyone plans a protest in front of my house, I don’t claim to be a theological scholar…I just found this refreshingly interesting.)

The first is a description of Days of Awe, the time period between the Jewish holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

The second is a description of Muslim period which is ending right now - Ramadan.

Let us all join our Jewish and Muslim friends in some introspection and prayers that we all can become the best people possible and make a difference in the world.
