Thank you very much for the kind postings in support of my family following my brother-in-law’s passing on Friday. Pasted below is Dan’s obituary, which he authored himself. While obviously sad, Mary and the girls are hoping that Wednesday’s service will be more of a Celebration of Dan's life and be uplifting, so they are encouraging friends not to wear black.

Daniel Crawford

Dan Crawford, age 46, of Wilmington DE, passed away on September 5, 2008, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dan was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and had served as a member of the United States Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., prior to coming to Delaware in 1991, when he began work as a Probation & Parole Officer. He eventually became a Correction Officer, working at Delaware Correctional Center. Dan’s greatest accomplishment in life, and the source of his greatest joy, was being a father to his 2 daughters, Nora and Luisa, and being married to his wife of 17 years, Mary McDonough.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Dan is survived by his father, Art, of Panama City, FL, and his older brother, Mike, of Petersburg, VA. He is also survived by the McDonough family, who never failed to treat him as if he were one of their own. Along with his mother-in-law, Marjorie, Dan is survived by Jack and Patti, Tom and Kathleen, Joe and Chris, and Margo and Bill. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Judith, and younger brother, Scott, as well as by his father-in-law, Jack, and nephew, Andrew.

Dan’s family would like to thank the health care professionals of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he received excellent care.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 917 N. Madison Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 6 pm. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:30 to 6 pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, it is Dan’s request that donations be made to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, in memory of his nephew. Donations may be sent to 101 Rockland Circle, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Yesterday morning, I had the distinct honor of meeting Arden Quinn Bucher’s parents and grandparents at her Memorial Service. There were so many nice pictures of a beautiful young lady. Andrew is great with younger kids and I am positive that he will watch over Arden. God bless Arden’s family and friends.

Following the Memorial Service, I stopped by A.l. DuPont Hospital to visit a really neat young lady named Savannah Pauley. Savannah is a 9 year old student at St. Ann’s School here in Wilmington and she was recently diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. She started her first round of chemo on Friday. I had the honor of presenting her with a “B+” medal (and tee shirt), just like the medals we presented at our 5k in June. Savannah, you and your family will be in our prayers daily. Stay strong and B+.

As the United Way giving season is gearing up, I wanted to once again share our United Way of Delaware designated agency write-in number with you. Our number is 11776. We greatly appreciate any support that you can provide to our Foundation. Thank you.

The KinFolk 5k, scheduled for Sept 10th, has been postponed.

Thank you again for all your support. We MUST do more to stop cancer and help families. Too many people - young and old - are suffering and dying. God bless you all.

Live Like Andrew - make the right choice.

B+
