B+ Hero, Christian Velez-Guzman – 2005-2013
There should be so many more years between the two numbers. I was just with Christian 10 days ago at our NYU dance marathon. What a cool little guy. I’m so heartbroken for his family and friends.
I’ve taken the liberty of copying Ali’s FB post below:
“Our hearts are heavy with the news of another child going to Heaven. Yesterday, B+ Hero Christian Velez-Guzmanpassed away, at the age of 8, after bravely battling Neuroblastoma since he was 3 years old.We had the privilege of spending time with Christian two weeks ago at NYDM. Through the B+ Heroes Program, Christian was “adopted” by ZBT Gamma Chapter at NYU. The Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity brothers visited Christian in the hospital, went Trick-or-Treating with him in full costumes and really built a special friendship with him. At #NYDM, ZBT brothers extended a bid to Christian and formally made him a fraternity brother.
This photo is of B+ Hero Christian and his ZBT brother Kevin at NYDM.

Happy Birthday B+ Hero, Miranda Ram-Nolte!!!
If you don’t know who Miranda is, she’s the brave young lady who, when the doctors have told her on a few occasions that she’s not going to live, she basically told them to take a hike. (I’m cleaning things up here a bit. :)) Today, Miranda turns 18! She has had one lung removed and, two weeks ago, had a kidney removed. This kid just keeps on fighting. And, if you watch her video, you’ll be blown away by how inspiring this young lady is. I was so honored when Miranda asked me to write a letter of recommendation for her for college. Take the time to watch her short video…I’m pretty sure it will be the most important thing you do today.
Giving Tuesday
It seems like almost every day this time of year has a name (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday, etc). Well, today is Giving Tuesday. You all are so generous on the other 364 days of the year, but I thought I’d share this with you nonetheless. Thank you very much for your support of the families of kids like Christian, Miranda, and so many others. If you’d like to make a holiday donation to help us further our mission, please visit this link. Thanks.
The world of childhood cancer is a cruel roller coaster. It’s so hard to even write this post today.
But, as we examine our lives, look at the way that these kids live and be inspired by them. They are role models for us!
