I am SO proud of The B+ Nation and everyone in the childhood cancer community!

One week ago today, I reported to you that there was a critical shortage of preservative-free methotrexate, a drug used to treat leukemia (ALL).  Thanks to the coordinated clamor of the childhood cancer community, the FDA reported today that the shortage has ceased.  It’s encouraging to see the impact that we can make when we all pull together.  It gives me hope for what more we can do in our fight against childhood cancers.

I don’t think this is the last that we’ll ever hear about drug shortages, though.  I think the government, in concert with the private sector, needs to develop a coordinated plan to pre-emptively ensure that this doesn’t happen in the future.  For more information on options, please see a previous Journal Update of mine regarding legislation introduced by Reps.  Carney (D-DE) Buchson (R-IN).  If you don’t think this is important, just imagine sitting by your brave child’s bedside as s/he fights cancer, only to be told by your doctor that they don’t have the required medicine for your child.

You may have heard a lot of hoopla and controversy over the potential bald-headed Barbie Doll, well, here’s another

interesting project you may want to check out.  Chelsea Makela is a 22 year old actress (“Dance Flick”) who battled a brain tumor 10 years ago.  She’s doing well now and is working on an inspiring book and doll set.  As Chelsea says, “because beauty isn’t just on the top of my head”.

During the first three days of the Hyundai FB event, we received 209 votes for a total of $1,045!  We can earn up to $10,000, but we need your vote (you can only vote once).  Please pass along this note to EVERYONE you know.  Our families battling childhood cancer need your help.  Thanks.

PLEASE HELP US EARN $10,000 WITH JUST 3 CLICKS

This one is easy!

From February 15 – March 15, anyone who “Likes” the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Facebook page can vote for one of 14 childhood cancer organizations across the country. With every vote, Hyundai Hope on Wheels will donate $5 to that organization. Each organization is eligible to receive up to $10,000, with the funds going directly to childhood cancer programs.

Please, please, please do the following.  It’s so simple and we get $5 for every vote.  I know we can get 2,000 votes to get the full $10,000.

  1. Go to http://on.fb.me/Like4Hope and “Like” Hyundai Hope on Wheels Facebook page

  2. Authorize the FB app (you’ll see it on the page). This just ensures that you only vote ONE time.

  3. Click on The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation logo.

That’s all!

And we get MONEY to help families of kids with cancer!

Thank you very much for your continued support.  Together, we can accomplish SO much!

B+
