Tues. Jan. 25th
I am deeply indebted to Congressman John Carney for his invitation to tonight’s State of the Union address. This invitation has served as a tremendous platform to generate awareness about our mission to fight childhood cancers. It has allowed me to educate a lot of people about the tremendously inadequate funding levels for childhood cancers.
Since the Congressman’s office issued the press release, there was a story on Fox 29 on Friday night, I did a live, in-studio interview on Fox 29 News on Saturday night, an article in today’s Wilmington News-Journal (see link below), a live interview this morning on WDEL radio, and 6ABC from Philadelphia just left after interviewing me for tonight’s news. More people learning that only 3% of NCI funding goes to all 12 major types of childhood cancers combined.
In a few hours, I leave for DC. Prior to the State of the Union address, I will be attending a reception at former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Following the address, I hope to attend the press event in the Capitol Rotunda. If you know me, you know I don’t care whether there’s a “D”, “R”, or “I” after the elected officials name. You’re either with us or against us in the fight to protect our children.
It is a great, but solemn, honor that I have to represent Andrew, all of the children who have died, all of the children who have battled cancer, The B+ Foundation, and all of the great childhood cancer fighting organizations in Washington tonight.
To borrow from Penn State’s THON motto,
FTK — For the kids!!!
Live Like Andrew. Help those that need a voice.
B+
Proud to be,
Ali’s & Andrew’s Dad
