Kudos to Bob Piniewski of People Against Childhood Cancer (PAC2) for a brilliant look at the true effects of cancer on children. Please don’t be fooled by people who simply say “well childhood cancer survival rates have increased dramatically”. Yes, that is true and something to be celebrated. BUT, there is SO much more when you look behind the curtain. If you want to read Bob’s entire article, please visit:
Childhood Cancer – Current Long-Term Outcomes
Thank you, Bob!

B+ Golf Outing, Dinner, & Auction
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 6th Annual B+ Golf Outing, Dinner, & Auction. The weather was fantastic, the golfers seemed to have fun, we had a lot of dinner guests, people won some great auction prizes, and MANY, MANY hearts and minds were opened to the battle of childhood cancer as B+ Hero, Miranda Ram-Nolte, mesmerized the assembled crowd with her words and her angelic voice. She sang SO beautifully…and this from a young lady who is missing most of one lung. But, as Miranda reminded us, she is NOT defined by cancer. She’s a normal 16 year old kid who goes to school, has friends, listens to music (and in her case, has literally released a single), and recently got her driver’s license. She IS ordinary in so many ways…and extraordinary in many other ways! Thank you, Miranda, for inspiring us.

Upcoming B+ Events
– The inaugural B+ Running Team – the team will be running in The Hamptons (NY) Marathon/Half-Marathon this weekend in Easthampton, NY. We have 11 participants running the 13.1 miles and another five going the full 26.2 miles. I’ll post some pictures next week. Wish them well…they’ve each raised at least $2,600 and are spreading awareness about childhood cancers. We have participants from MA, NY, PA, and DE on our team and they range in age from college age to several decades older (we’ll just leave it at that). Some are marathon/half-marathon veterans, but most are first-timers.
Please get in touch with us if you’d like to join us for next year’s marathon/half-marathon….different location, same sense of accomplishment and other benefits (B+ Foundation pays for race registration, travel, lodging, pre-race meal, etc.) We need to pick out a good venue for next year’s event…please give us your suggestions.
– B+ Racing Team Guest Bartender Event – Thurs. Oct. 4th at Brandywine Brewing Co. in Greenville, DE from 6-9pm. It’s going to be a lot of fun and the organizers have amassed some really great auction items that will also be available shortly on eBay for bidding.
– SuroMan – After many months of training, Eric Suro is about to embark on his 140.6 mile journey to raise awareness and money for our battle against childhood cancers. Eric will be doing a full ironman triathlon on Sat. Oct. 6th…starting in the Lehigh Valley (PA) and finishing in Newark, DE. Check out SuroMan’s FB page, leave encouraging messages, donate, and come out and support him as he brings it home to Newark on Oct. 6th.

Corporate-Run Employee Giving Campaign Season
This is the time of year when many companies do their annual employee giving campaigns and I can’t tell you how much we rely on these for support. Whether your company participates in United Way (like DuPont, Astra Zeneca, Gore, Barclays and many others) or runs their own campaigns (like JPMorgan Chase, Allstate, and others), please keep us in mind when you’re filling out your pledge. We GREATLY appreciate your support.

Did you vote today?
We have a 25% chance of winning $100,000 and YOU can dramatically help us improve those odds.
My daughter, Ali, has earned the well-deserved honor of being one of only FOUR Finalists for NASCAR’s Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. If she is the top vote-getter, she will be awarded $100,000 for The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, LIVE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION at the NASCAR Sprint Cup end of season banquet in Las Vegas on Nov. 30th. We not only need the money to help families of kids with cancer, but we need this national exposure to the terrible problem of childhood cancers.
Please do these two things right now:
Put a recurring reminder on your calendar to vote for Ali at www.nascar.com/award . You can vote each and every day from now until Nov. 29th.
Spread the word to all your friends. If you want to share a moving video about Ali with them, please pass this along.
Please take a minute each day to help us help the families. Thanks!

Thank you for honoring Andrew and all of the brave kids battling or who have battled childhood cancers!
