Counting our Blessings
B+ Hero Profile
During this week of Thanksgiving, I'm tremendously thankful that most of our children survive cancer. This is largely due to the commitment and investment in research that has dramatically increased survival rates. This is not to say that survivors don't have lifelong side effects -- they do -- but at least they're alive. I would be more than ok dealing with some side effects if my boy, Andrew, were still here with us. Sadly, though, some of the assistance that we provide to families is to ease their burden at their very worst time - the loss of their child. Just this week, we helped Davis' family. Allow me to share the note from the Social Worker:
"Davis was a funny, sensitive and thoughtful 15 year old boy who died in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) here on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. In the 2+ years since his diagnosis, his cancer relapsed 3 times and he underwent multiple treatment regimens. He lost his mother from cancer when he was 10 years old and his only sister had a malignant brain tumor removed last year. Their father works full-time as a labor worker for the state, but has used all of his paid time off caring for Davis the last few months. Davis had lost the ability to walk and care for himself independently."
Thanks to your generosity, one of the 97 checks that we sent last week was to assist Davis' Dad with the funeral. We couldn't do it without you. We need you. Please select us as your charity on Amazon Smile as we will receive a small percentage rebate on all of your purchases (and we don't see your purchases; it's all aggregated). Please consider a generous donation one week from today on #GivingTuesday. Some companies, like JPMorgan Chase, are even doubling their match on #GivingTuesday. Corporate matching gifts are so easy to apply for and so much appreciated.
Please keep our brave and innocent B+ Heroes in your prayers as we count our blessings during this holiday season.
Thanks for your support.
