Over the last two weekends, I have had the privilege of observing two very impressive fundraising events in the fight against childhood cancers.
This past weekend, Chris and I traveled to State College, PA to witness, firsthand, the largest student-run philanthropy in the country — THON (www.thon.org) . THON is a 46 hour dance marathon that raised $7.5 MILLION this year!!! It was unbelievably impressive how the students work so hard and sacrifice so much (and have some fun) all for kids with cancer. I want to thank senior Mike Hacke, the Overall Chairman of THON, and Ted Dwyer, the Chairman of the Board of The Four Diamonds Fund, for their hospitality. As they say at Penn State, it’s “FTK” — For the Kids! We are tremendously honored to be partnering with fraternities and sororities at the University of Delaware for our dance marathon, UDance, on April 26th. I’ll fill you in more on this later.
And, the weekend before last, we attended the Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware (www.lrfde.org) annual black tie gala. No one in Delaware throws a party like Denni Ferrara! Congratulations to Denni, Nick, Natalia, and everyone at LRFDE for surpassing the success of the 2008 event. In this economy, there aren’t too many events that can bring in over $200k in one night — and, most importantly, for such a good cause. Well done!
