Living Like Andrew
For the past couple of months, the kids at McVey Elementary School in Newark, DE have been introduced to The B+ Foundation and have embraced the message of "being positive" and "Living Like Andrew". For every act of kindness that they did, the kids got their name on a paper dragon (their school mascot). Additionally, they raised money and an anonymous donor gave them $.25 for each dragon.
I was greeted yesterday at an assembly with the picture below. I was so moved. The teachers and kids of McVey really 'get it'. "B+" is not just about fighting childhood cancer, but about doing good. They raised well over $1,200, but they also achieved over 500 acts of kindness. Who knows how many more acts of kindness were initiated because of these. My Andrew was not a perfect person - who is? - but he was a very kind person who lived the right way. I'm sure he's smiling down from Heaven on the McVey kids. -
Featured Family of the Week
Brianna was a 9 yr old girl from Texas who was diagnosed in Feb. with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). All childhood cancers are bad (yes, there are 12 major types of childhood cancers)...DIPG is really, really bad. You may remember our local buddy, Ethan Max Williams, who went to Heaven following a battle with DIPG. Brianna's Mom died 15 months ago from breast cancer and last month, after only 34 days following her diagnosis, little Brianna died with her Dad at her bedside. Thank you, B+ Nation, for helping Brianna's Dad with funeral expenses.
8th Annual B+ 5k
Don't procrastinate -- set up a team, register for the B+ 5k today. As always, our event will be the 3rd Thursday of June (June 19th) at Salesianum. It is not only one of the largest 5k Run/Walks in Delaware, but I think the most fun. (Yeah, I'm a little biased.) There will be a ton of free food and you'll see a lot of friends there. The key to our success is when you send out the solicitation email (that we wrote for you)...all you have to do is forward it out to 15-20 people. We WIN on every email because you help us spread awareness.
New this year is the Facebook and Twitter widget that you simply click on. Your personalized URL will be included with the pre-populated message. This will only take you literally seconds!
The bottom line is -- can you please give 2 minutes to families of kids with cancer? It doesn't matter where you live or whether you'll be available to join us on 6/19. Create a 'virtual' team or donate to "Andrew's Angels" team that Ali created. Thanks.

Calling Volunteers:
If anyone is interested in joining our B+ 5k Planning Committee, please email me at Joe@LiveLikeAndrew.org. We especially need help with:
- securing new sponsorships

- facilitating our food/beverage donations with our company donors
- securing age group prizes
Thanks!
Pathmark and Super Fresh Help The B+ Foundation
Are you a Pathmark or Super Fresh shopper? Want to help your B+ Foundation? All you have to do is link your frequent shopper card to The B+ Foundation and we will get a % of your purchases in a donation from Pathmark and Super Fresh. That's all you have to do.
Ask in-store and they'll link your card to The B+ Foundation and then just do your regular shopping. You'll help fight childhood cancer without even knowing it. Thank you to Marty Callahan, B+ Hero Dad and Pathmark Manager, for bringing this to our Foundation.
THANKS
Big shout outs to a lot of people who hosted me for talks this week:
- On Sunday, I spoke to 8 Greek groups at Clemson University
- On Tuesday, I joined SAE brothers in Boston for a planning meeting for a B+ event they have coming up in the Fall
- On Wednesday, I introduced The B+ Foundation to 500+ students at The College of New Jersey and discussed their Fall event.
- On Thursday, the kids at McVey Elementary (see above) welcomed me back.
We're so honored and excited by the way that students across the country are embracing our Foundation.
Make it a great weekend!
B+
