Game Changers

Students Rock!

The school year is a REALLY busy time of the year for us here at The B+ Foundation...and that's a great thing.  In the last few weeks, among other places, I've given talks at the University of Delaware, University of Maryland, NYU, Fordham University, the University of Texas, and Brandywine Springs Elementary School.  I am so impressed by the kids at Brandywine Springs, a K-8 school, who is organizing their inaugural B+ Dance Marathon this year with a goal of $20,000!  As you'll see in the picture below, last Friday I made my annual talk in the ring at Sigma Chi "Fight Night" at the University of Texas.  Yes, students box against each other for pride...and a good cause - to raise money for The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and the Huntsman Cancer Center.  Congratulations to LaSalle University (PA) for hosting their inaugural B+ Dance Marathon and raising over $22,000!

Election Time

Congratulations to all of the childhood cancer advocates who won their elections yesterday.  We look forward to continued great leadership from Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX).  Locally, I look forward to continued partnership with the Delaware delegation of Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE).  As I say many times, when a child is diagnosed with cancer, it doesn't matter at all whether their parents have a R, D, or I after their names.  Fighting childhood cancer is something we should all be able to rally behind.

B+ Fights Childhood Cancer by Funding Research

I REALLY get excited by the prospect of changing the landscape of childhood cancer by helping to fund scientific discoveries.  We're at such an exciting time in research, particularly with the progress being made in the area of immunotherapy.  Whether it's outright cures or improved treatment protocols that will be gentler on the child and not bring with it such horrible side effects, it's an honor to play a small part.  You make it possible.  We are on the verge of announcing the winners of this Fall's grant cycle.  We had 50 applications submitted from leading pediatric oncology investigators from 27 states and 3 countries.  We will be awarding 10 grants totaling $1,500,000 just in this cycle alone.  Just think of the possibilities!!!  YOU are game changers. Thank you.  I'll be back in touch with an update on the recipients.
