Man, There's a LOT Going On!!!
Advocacy Update
I want to keep you updated on the discussions stemming from President Trump’s State of the Union Address about increased funding for the fight against childhood cancer. As you may recall, he proposed an incremental $500MM over the next 10 years.
I had the privilege of joining other childhood cancer advocates on a conference call two weeks ago with the White House, the Office of the Secretary of Health & Human Services, and the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While there wasn’t a lot of new news shared with us, I really appreciate that the White House, HHS, and NIH took the time to hold a call with us.
Hopefully, we will see this initiative included in the President’s Budget when it is released in a few weeks. As you may know, there is a WHOLE lot of stuff that has to happen before this ever comes to fruition, but the fact that we’re talking about it is a very good thing.
What would we do without the students?!
This is a very busy time for our student partners. There are B+ events all around the country. In just the last couple of weeks, I spoke at my high school alma mater (Mt. Pleasant), Paul VI HS in Haddon Township, NJ, Skyped with Union College in Schenectady, NY, and gave 5 talks at the University of Texas in Austin. Last Friday, I attended a cool, new B+ event (B+ Ball - picture below) at Villanova University and then went to Loyola Marymount (LMU) in Los Angeles to speak to 8 groups as they prepare for their inaugural B+ Dance Marathon. After getting back from LA, I introduced The B+ Foundation to 900 new sorority women at the University of Delaware. Our big Delaware event, UDance, is coming up on March 24th! Btw, the event is open to the public. After speaking to Archmere Academy students yesterday morning, I had the privilege of speaking to new Greek Life members at The College of New Jersey in Trenton. It was standing room only. And, tonight, the University of Delaware Women's Basketball team helps us by hosting their annual "B+ UDance" game. Come out and join us. Busy is good!!! :)
MAKE it a great weekend! It's up to you.
