It was a really nice weekend — weather-wise and activity-wise.

Yesterday, Mike & Dino from 1614 Fitness hosted a “Pump & Run” 5k to benefit The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.  It was a great turnout and we were honored to be joined by two B+ Hero families — Olivia Calbazana and her Mom and Zackerey Turner and his Mom, Dad, and brother.  I appreciate the courage that it took for Lulu, Zackarey, and Kelly to get up and speak.  It’s so important for people to see the faces of childhood cancers.

In an effort to support B+ Hero Noxah Palomo’s search for a bone marrow match, Pi Kappa Phi and The B+ Foundation ran a bone marrow drive yesterday at the Pump & Run.  I’m pleased to report that we signed up 30 people to the Bone Marrow Registry!  It only takes 1.  I pray that I will get a call one day telling me that our drive yielded a match - for Noxah or some other person somewhere in the world.

Today, the Salesianum Rugby Team hosted the first annual Catholic Invitational RugB+ Tournament.  It was a great day with many matches, a ton of food, great souvenirs, and some amazing Irish dancing by rugby player and world champion, Nicholas Paulson, and some very talented girls from MD and NJ.  I really think that Andrew was smiling down on his Salesian brothers today…so very proud of what they did today to raise money for our fight against childhood cancer.  Thank you to Terry Coleman and all of the parents who worked so hard to pull this all together.  And, by the way, this is a REALLY cool sport!

Also on Saturday, I had the privilege of speaking at the Coaches Meeting prior to the CYM track meet.  I hope I touched some hearts and I hope that they will be motivated to set up teams for our June 17th 5k and help in the fight against childhood cancers.

PLEASE set up a team and spread the word for awareness, participation, and donations.  June 17th is going to be a great night with free food and drink but, the highlight - as always - will be recognizing the B+ Heroes (children with cancer and their siblings) at the end of the night.  Please come out and join us - as a team member or an individual participant.  Spread the word and help us reach our goals of 2,000 participants and $100,000 raised.  Thanks!
