It’s a crazy, busy time at The B+ Foundation.
Last Thursday, the New Candlelight Theatre (www.nctstage.org) hosted “B+ Night” at the theatre. The cast and crew put on an amazing production of “Annie” and the Theatre presented us with a check for $500. Better yet, they afforded me the opportunity to speak to the audience about the need to fight childhood cancers. Additionally, they honored two B+ Heroes – Aryn Strigle and Kara Kelly, by bringing them on stage and presenting them with very cool B+ cakes.

On Friday, in keeping with the 2011 B+ tradition, we had rain for our “B+ Night at the Blue Rocks”! 🙂 The joke is not funny anymore, Andrew!!! 🙂 Seriously, last year’s golf outing, the soccer tournament, the UD lax night, the B+ 5k — all rain. I think I should schedule B+ events in parts of the country where they’re begging for rain. A new fundraising idea?
So, “B+ Night at the Blue Rocks” will be rescheduled to September 3rd which, incidentally, is Andrew’s BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you can come out and join us and honor the B+ Heroes as they’re introduced on the field.

On Saturday night, The Imagination Players performed a show at the Tatnall School in Wilmington which benefited three local charities; one being The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. Because of other commitments, I wasn’t able to attend, but, based upon their reputation, I’m sure it was a great show.

This coming Wednesday, the Christiana Hilton will be hosting a Pool Party from 5pm-9pm to benefit The B+ Foundation. It’s amazing how many great auction items they’ve come up with…including a cruise!!! Thank you to Drew DiFonzo for all the hard work in organizing this and to the Christiana Rotary for being a sponsor. Come join us on Wed., have some fun, and who knows what cool items you may go home with…and, best of all, fight childhood cancer in the process.

Speaking of auction items, we have our “5th Annual B+ Foundation Golf Outing, Dinner, & Auction” coming up on Sept 26th at the DuPont CC. We are still looking to gather some more exciting auction packages. As you know, travel items — airline tickets, hotel stays, etc- are always a big hit as are sports tickets/boxes at the stadiums. One of the things that I’d like to offer is a scooter (i.e. Vespa-like…not kid’s scooter). Please let me know if anyone has a connection to a dealer. If you can help us with any great auction items, please email me at Joe@LiveLikeAndrew.org. Thank you very much!

One of the things that really impresses me is how many of our B+ supporters have reached out to other children fighting cancer. Like Andrew, you’ve ‘adopted’ these brave kids. One of our B+ supporters, Christine DePaul, asked me to recognize Kelly Laude (www.carepages.com/carepages/KellyLaude) and put her up on her well-deserved pedestal. Kelly is a young lady that I’ve been aware of for quite some time. She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a grade 4 brain tumor, in July, 2007. As you’ll see from her website, she has fought MANY battles over the past four years and has always handled herself with grace, dignity, and a B+ attitude. Please keep Kelly and her family in your prayers.
