Mon. Dec. 12th

Last week, I had the true pleasure of spending time with B+ Hero, Miranda Ram-Nolte and her Mom, Diane, over at A.I. duPont Hospital prior to a periodic CT scan.  Miranda, as you may know, has been in two Hollywood theatrical releases and even received her SAG union card.  She is an incredible actress and singer.  We also spent some time talking about the keys dangling from her purse since she just celebrated her “Sweet 16” birthday.

Imagine the shock that Miranda and her family – and all of her friends- experienced when Miranda was told that the cancer is back.  Looking at this girl, you would have NO idea that she was sick at all.  That is how cruel childhood cancers can be.  One minute, your biggest worry is a soccer game or learning to drive on the highway, and the next minute, you’re fighting for your life.  Miranda didn’t get to where she is today by being a pushover.  She’s a tough kid and I know she’s going to fight this like the HERO that she is.  Please pray for Miranda and leave her words of encouragement on her website.  Thanks.

Courtesy of Scripps Howard News Service, please see below what appears to be much-needed legislation to protect our children that have gone on before us.

WASHINGTON — ID thieves would have a harder time trying to profit off the deaths of children and others under a House bill introduced Friday to limit access to Social Security numbers available online.

When Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, unveiled the “Keeping IDs Safe Act of 2011,” he criticized Social Security’s publicly released Death Master File, which has been used for at least a decade by thieves to access Social Security numbers, file bogus tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service and collect refunds.

Johnson’s “KIDS Act” would effectively end public access to the death file, which now can be searched for a small fee or even for free on genealogy and other online sites.

The files contain the Social Security numbers and other personal information that can easily be used by identity thieves.

The bill’s introduction came two weeks after an ongoing Scripps Howard News Service investigation documented cases across the country where ID thieves have used the Social Security numbers of dead children to file bogus tax returns claiming the children as their dependents and routing the refunds to themselves.

Hey iPhone people, we have an exciting product that is coming in just in time for the holidays…..  a B+ iPhone cover.   The shipment comes in Friday and we’ll be mailing them out over the weekend.  They come in one color – black (see picture) – and are hard plastic (not the squishy silicone).  Show your support for the battle against childhood cancers!

Finally, congratulations to my wonderful daughter who took her last EVER exam today at the University of Delaware!!!  In the spring, she will be doing her ‘field work’…an internship at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.  Then – it’s graduation!!!  Congratulations, Ali!!!  We’re so proud of you.
