Mon. Dec. 5th
It’s been a busy week for The B+ Foundation.
Last Wednesday, Katie Wilson (Program Director) and I presented to about 1,000 people at a national conference of fraternity, sorority, and university administrators in St. Louis, MO. The goal was to introduce more people to The B+ Foundation, expand our ‘footprint’ to other campuses around the country, and enlist new groups in the battle against childhood cancers. We had some great follow-up discussions and I’m very optimistic that we will be introducing B+ events on many more campuses in the coming year. We need this enhanced awareness to spread the message about the tremendously under-supported battle against childhood cancers and we desperately need this source of income to try to keep up with all of the applications that are coming in for family assistance from the families of kids with cancers. And, that’s not to mention the need to fund cutting edge research.

From St. Louis, I headed to Chicago for our Northwestern University Dance Marathon (NUDM) B+ Holiday Party on Sat. It was a great day seeing our Chicagoland B+ Heroes (children with cancer) interacting with the Northwestern students. There were 2 acapella groups, one theatre group, a harpist, and numerous activities for the kids. It was a great day!!! Pictured below are B+ Hero, Sarah, B+ Midwestern Regional Director Eamon O’Neill (aka Rudolph), Kunal Joshi (Co-Chair of NUDM), and Sarah’s Mom.

From Chicago it was on to Newark, DE on Sunday for the UDance B+ Holiday Party. As with Northwestern, the UD students did an AMAZING job putting on a great party for the B+ Heroes. There was a great crowd and impromptu entertainment was provided by 8 year old B+ Hero, Hayden Godwin. Hayden sang so many songs and he knew every word to each song. I think he’s ready for American Idol. Not to be left out, B+ Hero Aryn got into the act and did her own stirring rendition “Just the Way You Are”. You have to see this.

Philadelphian Rina Goldberg truly epitomized the “B+” lifestyle. Rina came to learn about Andrew through Amanda P. who was a brave B+ Hero as well. Andrew, Amanda, and Rina all left his world too early, but I’m sure are all together and watching over us. I will never forget the honor and privilege of spending some time with Rina at her house along with Ali and some of her sorority sisters from the University of Delaware. I can’t really describe it, but Rina had a glow to her, an aura around her. She was a really special kid. Rina wrote a story called “The Magic Bracelet”. In her final months on earth, she, her family, and several others were in the early stages of bringing her story to the big screen. Please take a look at the note below for some incredible news about Rina’s project.
From Tamika Lamison’s entry on the Make A Film Foundation FB site:
“Make A Film Foundation’s next project, “The Magic Bracelet” written by Rina Goldberg, will be adapted into a short by Diablo Cody, The Academy Award Winning Writer of JUNO. Rina, unfortunately lost her valiant battle with Mitochondrial Disease in December of last year. We are honored to have the opportunity to make her film wish come true. And we are so excited to have Diablo join the Make A Film Foundation team. We think Rina would be proud!”
Diablo, your Academy Award was impressive, but this project will touch your heart like none other!
