UDance 2013

In just 13 days, UDance 2013 – the 12 hour University of Delaware dance marathon to fight childhood cancer- will be here.  The students are working hard to top last year’s $470,000 raised to support our efforts to fund cutting edge childhood cancer research and provide assistance to families of kids with cancer.  There are several ways that you can help.

1.  To make a donation, please click here and support an individual or any team.  It doesn’t matter if you know them or not.  It all goes to the cause.

2.  Please “Like” former University of Delaware student Barry Herbst’s Facebook page –> http://www.facebook.com/HerbstBarry.  For each new “Like” by March 1st, Barry will donate $2 to UDance.

3.  If you’re local, there are a bunch of fundraisers…something for everyone’s tastes.  Check out calendarwiz.com/udance2013 .

4.  Come out and join us on Sun. March 10th from 11am-11pm…I’d highly recommend coming at 5:00pm when we recognize all of the B+ Heroes on stage.

Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer

I was so touched to receive a check of $300 from Lily in Texas.  Lily’s older sister, Sophie, is one of the students working with us to bring a B+ event to NYU.  Lily recently celebrated her bat mitzvah and this Texas teen cared so much about our cause that she donated $300 of her bat mitzvah money to help us fight childhood cancer.  Thank you, Lily.  I hope your family is very proud of you.

Congratulations to Haley Warhaftig for bringing a B+ dance to her high school as part of her senior project.  The JagsDance at Appoquinimink HS raised nearly $5,000 and we’re hopeful this is the first year of a new tradition at Appo.  Thanks, Haley, and good luck at the US Naval Academy next year!

Featured Family of the Week

Meet B+ Hero Katie.  Katie is 15 years old and bravely battling leukemia.  Katie has been treated with multiple chemotherapy regimens, but they haven’t been successful.  Her family has been told there are no more treatment options, so Katie is now home on hospice.  Katie’s family is planning her funeral – something no parent should have to do for their child.  The family requested financial assistance
from The B+ Foundation to help pay funeral expenses.  Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to provide financial assistance to Katie’s family so they can focus on Katie and their time left together and not have to worry about bills.

Peace Prayer of St. Francis de Sales

I’ve been asked to share a prayer that I said many, many times while we were in the hospital.

Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life; rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise, God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will carry you in His arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same understanding Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day.

He will either shield you from suffering or will you give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

Live like Andrew!
