Wilmington Winter Classic Ice Hockey Game
What an amazing night last Saturday!!! Thank you, Mike Cofalka & Griff Jordan and everyone from the Wilmington PD and Wilmington FD, for a wildly successful event. B+ Hero, Dane Johnson, is pictured above dropping the puck. Dane was joined by his B+ sibling heroes, Jodi and Drew. We were also honored to have with us B+ Hero, Kara Kelly and her sibling hero, Sean, and B+ Hero, Alex Blythe. I was tremendously touched when the firefighters presented me with a WFD team jersey with “In Memory of Andrew McDonough” written across the back! It was a great game, a great night, and a lot of people learned a little bit more about childhood cancers. Thank you WFD and WPD. Can’t wait for next year’s game!

Childhood Cancer Research Funding Article in The Atlantic
A couple of months ago, a local writer, Zoe Read, approached me about an article that she wanted to write regarding the sorry state of childhood cancer research funding. She said that she wanted to get it published in The Atlantic which, quite honestly, I thought was a very admirable, but lofty, goal. Well, lo and behold, she did it! Zoe interviewed me and I introduced her to some of my friends in the world of childhood cancer. Zoe did an OUTSTANDING job capturing a B+ Hero family’s battle and the inadequate funding landscape. This is just the kind of national exposure we need. Thank you, Zoe, for shining a light on this national embarrassment. Please take a few minutes to read this article.

Random Item for You 🙂
This has nothing to do with childhood cancer, but is interesting nonetheless (at least I think so 🙂 John Sheardown died this past weekend. Mr. Sheardown was a tremendously heroic man whose bravery was overlooked by many…including a recent, outstanding Hollywood film. Google him…he should not be forgotten.
Make it a great day!
