B+ Golf Outing

Well, we finally had our “4th Annual B+ Golf Outing” and it was a big success.  Originally scheduled for Sept. 27th, Mother Nature decided that wasn’t the best day for us to play.  So, about 105 golfers put on an extra layer of clothing and hit the DuPont Country Club on Monday.   We had a great time and have already nailed down a date for next year – Sept 26, 2011.  Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Eastern University Bone Marrow Drive

I’m excited to report that, for the first time, we have a week-long bone marrow drive underway.  We’ve had numerous one day drives, but this is the first 5 day event.  And, the Eastern University bone marrow drive is being held at three campuses in Pennsylvania – St. David’s, Center City Philadelphia, and Harrisburg.  We might just save a life!!!

Archmere-Dover Soccer Game

While we’ve had a few schools wear our B+ shirts as warm-ups, there is only one game (that I know of) where the teams actually wear the B+ shirts as their game jerseys.  It was so cool to see Archmere Academy and Dover High School take the field with a big B+ on the front of their jerseys.  Even the three referees wore B+ shirts!  This is the second year in a row that Coach Paul Booton (Dover) and Coach Bob Bussiere (Archmere) have organized “B+ Night” at their annual showdown.  To the Dover and Archmere communities, thank you very much for keeping Andrew ‘alive’ and supporting our mission.

Here’s a link to a story about Tuesday night’s game.

St. Mary Magdalen Football

I was very privileged to represent our Foundation last night at a check presentation ceremony following the St. Mary Magdalen grade school football practice.  As most of you know, St. Mary Magdalen was Andrew’s grade school.  Coach Marty Barnes, Kevin Reilly, and the players presented me with a check for $1,000.  Coming from SMM, especially, this means so much to us!  Thank you.

“B+ Foundation College Classic”

I am very pleased to announce that our inaugural “B+ Foundation College Classic” soccer tournament will be held on Sat. April 16, 2011 at Kirkwood Soccer Club.  We will have 4 men’s college teams and 4 women’s college teams in town for two games each.  The day will serve to give the schools some good spring game activity, give the community a chance to see a high level of soccer, and raise some money and awareness for our battle against childhood cancer.  Some of the schools that have already committed include the University of Delaware, the United States Naval Academy, and Villanova University.  The men’s bracket will be named the “Andrew McDonough Bracket” and the women’s bracket will be named the “Amy Stevens Bracket” in honor of Andrew’s friend, Amy, whose funeral was yesterday.

Please let me know if you would be interested in helping us out on the Planning Committee for the “B+ Foundation College Classic”.  As always, I can be reached at joe@LiveLikeAndrew.org.
