UDANCE 2011 —  ***** $264,042 *****

Sunday was an amazing day…long, but amazing!  We had over 2,500 attendees, 19 B+ Heroes, one U.S. Senator (Chris Coons), one football team, one women’s lacrosse team, a ton of love, and $264,042 raised for our fight against childhood cancers!!!  We are indebted to the UDance Executive Board, the UD students and families/friends, our sponsors, Sen. Chris Coons, and most especially, our brave B+ Heroes.  Two years ago, this event raised $25,000, last year $118,000…and now $264,042 and more money is coming in.  I’m stunned!  This money will go to great use in our battle against childhood cancers.  For more on UDance, please read a nice article written by Jessica Sorentino in the UD newspaper, The Review.

Last week, Sanford School won the girls (and boys, for that matter) high school basketball championship.  Sanford had ‘adopted’ a B+ Hero, Fiona Monahan, back in December at the Diamond State Classic.  Please see below for a Caringbridge excerpt from Fiona’s Mom.  Congratulations and thank you to Coach Marcus Thompson and all of the girls of the Sanford basketball team.

“This weekend was a whirlwind of activities! Friday night, we attended the state girl’s basketball (DE) championship game and watched Sanford go on to defend their title for the second year…Fiona and I were thrilled for the girls. I am in awe of the heart they all showed.  After the game, Fiona was called up and Coach Thompson presented her with a game medal, which was totally unexpected. I have to say that I cried when I saw what they were doing. Someday, Fiona will understand how generous they were to share their special day with her. She was thrilled – don’t get me wrong! They also had her climb the ladder and snip a piece of net off the hoop. We’ll have to get a shadow box to put it all in, along with the photo of her with the team. It was an incredible moment in time to watch the game – and see the generosity of the team to Fiona!”

Now, for a little unrelated trivia.  I can only use this meaningless trivia one day a year, so here goes!  🙂

Today’s date was made famous by a Shakespeare line “Beware the Ides of March”.  What play is this from?

  1. Macbeth

  2. Hamlet

  3. Julius Caesar

  4. Othello

  5. Romeo & Juliet

Thanks, again, for all your support and for keeping the B+ Heroes and their families in your prayers.
