Carly & Nadine
A few months ago, I posted about our two B+ employees, Carly Bergstein and Nadine Mitchell. I was asked to post a picture of them so that you could put faces to the names.
Carly (on the left) is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Fordham University and works out of our donated space at 377 Park Ave South in NYC. Carly’s primary responsibility is to expand our presence in the New York metropolitan area, particularly on the college campuses. Stay tuned for exciting news about NYC area B+ college events. Carly was also in charge of our recent B+ Running Team at the Hamptons Marathon…an event where she completed the 13.1 Half Marathon! If you can help us in the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT), whether it’s with colleges, companies, individuals, or through other organizations, please contact Carly at Carly@BePositive.org.
Nadine (on the right) is a graduate of the University of California – Davis and works with me at “World Headquarters” 🙂 … my house! Before you laugh about where we work, this is one of the reasons why The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation attests that $.90 of every dollar spent goes to our mission of fighting childhood cancers. We have very low administrative expenses. You won’t find many leaner organizations. The rule of thumb is that if a charity spends $.80 or more of every dollar on their mission, they are a very reputable, efficient, and well-run organization. I’m very proud to say that we greatly exceed the hurdle. Getting back to Nadine, her role is to further grow UDance and export the success that we have had on college campuses to new campuses around the country. I won’t release the names just yet, but the schools that have expressed interest in bringing a B+ event to their campus represent a “Who’s Who” of America’s top schools. Nadine also is responsible for working with me to assist the families of kids with cancer in our Family Assistance Program. Nadine can be reached at Nadine@BePositive.org

Lt. Joseph Szczerba 5k
While most of my comments on this site are related to childhood cancers, there are exceptions. The Lt. Joseph Szczerba 5k is one of those. Lt. Joe Szczerba was a New Castle County (DE) policeman killed in the line of duty on September 16, 2011. The Lt. is a “Salesian Brother” of Andrew’s…he was a graduate of Salesianum’s Class of 1985. A memorial scholarship has been established at Salesianum and the inaugural “Lt. Joseph Szczerba 5k” will occur this Saturday, Oct. 13th at Salesianum at 8:30am. Registration begins at 7:30am. Please come out and honor a local hero and help us further his legacy with his scholarship fund.

In honor of the Lt. and Andrew, one of my favorite quotes from the patron saint of their school, St. Francis de Sales:
“Be who you are, and be that well.”

Make today count.
