Your Impact
Featured Family - Nick
Please see the note below from a single Mom, military vet who is doing everything she can…but she needed your help.
I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your kindness and generosity! Your donation really helped keep us moving forward financially while going through this fight. I am forever indebted to you and your family.
Just so you know a little about us…I am a single Mom, retired from the Air Force and living the best life we can on an already tight budget! My son Nick just turned 17 just two weeks before he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (diagnosed in August). He is a Senior in high school and is also doing the Running Start program at Olympic College. Up to that point, he was a super healthy, happy, and fun-loving teenager! He was very athletic. He played football, baseball, and basketball since he was four years old. Once he got into middle school, he played Varsity and was the captain of the team for all his sports. EVERYONE loves him! He is kind, generous, respectful, funny, and is the best friend a person could ask for. He’s always been the guy that sticks up for those getting picked on. He loves God. He loves to volunteer. He loves kids. I could go on, but you get the point. He is an amazing human being, and I am incredibly blessed to be his Mom.
What a shock this was for us. We are still struggling with his diagnosis. It has been lifechanging. I could never have imagined the pain that could be felt once I knew my son was sick and I could do nothing about it. I would never wish that pain on anyone ever. Nick is a trooper though and is fighting the battle. He is about to start his fifth round of chemo and his sixth hospital stay in two months. He wakes up every day still with a smile on his face. He has managed to charm all the nurses at the Children’s Hospital too! They all have said that he has got to be the easiest and sweetest teen they have ever had the pleasure to help. That makes my heart feel good!
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you helped us be able to not get behind on our bills while we are battling this disease. As you are most likely aware, there are a lot of added expenses that insurance most certainly does not cover, such as travel expenses, some prescriptions, copays, bridge tolls and vehicle expenses needed to travel to and from the hospital on a daily/weekly basis, additional medical procedures such as fertility procedures (freezing and long-term storage costs), and an array of other expenses that would have never crossed my mind before this. Again, thank you so very much for your generosity and your help for my family!
Sincerely,
Renee & Nick
