Easter Week
B+ Heroes
Let's start with a shout-out to B+ Hero, Christian, who will be undergoing surgery tomorrow. Please keep Christian and his family in your prayers.
And, for those of you in/near Delaware, a Celebration of Leon Huhn's Life will be held on Fri. April 1st at Cab Calloway School.
"Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer®"
Since the amazing UDance 2016, I traveled to the University of Arkansas last week and the University of Texas this week. Austin is such a cool city and our partnership with the Longhorns just keeps getting bigger and better. We have several B+ Heroes paired with groups on campus and the students are GREAT. A big shout-out to the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma who really took my talk to heart and are off to the races for our big Round Up event.
Going much younger, I have to share with you the story of St. Peter's School in New Castle, DE. St. Peter's is a grade school that reached out to us and was really moved by our Family Assistance Program. Neither they nor us knew what to expect in terms of the success of their upcoming dance marathon on April 9th. Would you believe that the students and teachers have already increased their goal 3-4 times because they keep crushing it! Thank you so much for caring about your peers!
10th Annual B+ 5k
Want to feel like summer is almost here? Start planning for the 10th Annual B+ 5k! Click here to start your team and send out your emails and help us make this the best ever. My goal this year is to have a team for every swim club in New Castle County. If you're part of a swim club, please create a team today and in a couple of months when your pool opens, I'd love to come and make a 5 minute visit to share with the families the impact of your support. Thanks.
Holy Week
My favorite holiday of the year is Easter.
I remember the optimism that I had heading into Holy Week 2007 when we were in the hospital. We started Holy Week with a Palm Sunday mass in Andrew's hospital room that almost quickly became a disaster. It was actually so funny. The priest from Andrew's school came over and set everything up for mass....including the lighting of candles...which is normally an uneventful thing. BUT, not in a PICU with oxygen running through Andrew's tube to his nose and smoke detectors overhead. Fortunately, one of us (Chris) had the presence of mind to put the kibosh on the candles before we ended up evacuating the unit.
I don't usually have the strength to go back and re-read our Journal Updates from 2007. It's just too sad. But, I worked up the strength today to go back to Palm Sunday 2007. I was really looking for a miracle that week.
We are optimistic that Holy Week will be a turning point, a renewal of health for Andrew! And, from many of your comments, I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment....
But, I did get a present that day.
But, my boy made my day this morning when, out of the blue, he just said "I love you, Dad" and then went back to sleep. I was PUMPED!
I love you too, Andrew!
