White House Cancer Moonshot Summit

On Wed, Vice President Joe Biden convened a gathering of cancer experts in Washington, DC for a Cancer Moonshot Summit.  On a conference call in late May, the Vice President asked hospitals and advocacy organizations, including The B+ Foundation, to hold local summits to coincide with the DC summit.  We were honored to answer the call and participate.

So, we gathered at the University of Delaware with student leaders from schools across the country who partner with The B+ Foundation to fight childhood cancer.  We watched the Vice President's address and then tackled the objective of 'how can we double the speed of childhood cancer discoveries and cures'.  This is no small feat and we had a lot of great discussion.  As with any gathering like this, the true value of the day won't be known until sometime down the road.  Was this simply a PR exercise or have we raised the consciousness of cancer in America, uncovered some nuggets, and truly committed ourselves to make real, substantive progress?  We need to have the same kind of passion on the other 364 days of the coming year...and all the years to come.  Time will tell.

We are very grateful for the student leaders who gave up a day of their summer break to answer the Vice President's call to serve.
