The B+ Blog
Check out our blog to get monthly updates about all things B+ from our President and Co-Founder, Joe McDonough.
Exciting Research News!
The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation is proud to be one of the funders of the great work being done in the lab of Dr. Greg Friedman at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. As you may have seen on global media, exciting discoveries have just been revealed.
Research Update Opportunity
It’s been a few weeks since I posted an update and a lot sure has happened. The Christmas holidays and early January were odd for me since we didn’t have the opportunity to participate in the Diamond State Classic (national girls high school basketball tournament) and the Wilmington Classic (Wilmington Fire Dept vs Wilmington Police Dept ice hockey game).
Progress and Legacies
While we tend to focus on the more relatable stories of assisting families of kids with cancer with critical medical and living expenses, I get really excited about our research grants as well. Would you believe that The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation has awarded 150 research grants to leading researchers globally since our inception?
International Childhood Cancer Research Collaboration
When Chris, Ali, and I started The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, it was our steadfast desire - demand actually - that any researchers that we support must share the learnings from their work.
Research, Refunds, & Running!
While it is certainly much more complicated than discussing family assistance stories, I really get excited (and I hope you do as well) with the investments that we make in cutting-edge childhood cancer research.
Vincristine Update & Congratulations Ali!
Have you heard about the vincristine shortage? Vincristine is a drug used to treat several types of #ChildhoodCancer including leukemias and lymphomas.
All Kinds of Good News!
Thank you all for your kind words of support on Andrew's birthday. It really means a lot to us. We got through it...together.
Exciting Research Update!
Something for everybody...some people like chocolate ice cream, some people vanilla. Some people only want to read about family assistance, and some people are only concerned with research.
Research Update & B+ 5k
While most people like to hear the heartwarming family assistance stories that we are able to share - and for good reason - I get really geeked up about the research that The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation is funding as well.
SIOP 2018 - No Child Should Die of Cancer
The 50th Congress of the Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique (SIOP) was held about 10 days ago in Kyoto, Japan. I had the privilege of attending and it was fascinating.
Game Changers
The school year is a REALLY busy time of the year for us here at The B+ Foundation...and that's a great thing.
The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation Awards $1,500,000 in Research Grants
While we awarded $1,500,000 in research grants last month, I purposely held off announcing this so as not to compete with all of the holiday chatter. I think news of this magnitude deserves attention.
Exciting Research News...and So Much More!
There's a whole lot of exciting news to share with you.
Long Overdue Update
Sorry that it's been awhile since I last posted. I've been spending a lot of time on the road, but for all good reasons. This is a very busy time of the year both with September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and our schools are back in session.
Important Research Opportunity!
To Families of Kids with Cancer: You have a unique opportunity to further the learning on a subject that we think is often overlooked
The Research News Just Keeps Getting Better!
At the recent 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), a tremendously exciting update was shared regarding the immunotherapy research being conducted at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children's Hospital.
"Game Changer"
It's been a busy week meeting with students at the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and the University of Washington.
Happy Holidays
We are thrilled to share with you that The B+ Foundation has provided a second research grant to the Ben Towne Childhood Cancer Center (BTCCC) at Seattle Children's Hospital to support their fascinating work on immunotherapy.
5/6/14 - Exciting Research News
Back when we started this foundation, I was under the impression that you needed $100 million and 20 years to make an impact on the research front.
