The B+ Blog
Check out our blog to get monthly updates about all things B+ from our President and Co-Founder, Joe McDonough.
Keeping Busy!
Twenty people got an early start to their day (5:30am race start!) as they represented The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation Running Team at Walt Disney World's Star Wars Rivals Run.
A Truly Memorable Week!
After spending 12 hours at Villanova on Saturday, we headed to The Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware on Sunday for UDance 2019!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
DIPG is a horrible type of brain cancer with virtually no chance of survival. It has not been as extensively studied as some other types of childhood cancer, but the landscape is changing.
Man, There's a LOT Going On!!!
I want to keep you updated on the discussions stemming from President Trump’s State of the Union Address about increased funding for the fight against childhood cancer. As you may recall, he proposed an incremental $500MM over the next 10 years.
A Whole Lot of Random Stuff :)
Once again, my apologies for not posting more frequently. It's been a busy start to the year here at The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.
111 Checks!!!
We just finished up our weekly review of Family Assistance Program applications and I signed 111 checks!!! Can you believe it? One week!
From the Hardwood to the Ice
Girls high school basketball teams came to Delaware from all over the country for the Diamond State Classic. We paired B+ Heroes with the 11 out-of-state teams and 1 of the in-state teams as you'll see in the picture above.
Merry Christmas and Thank You from the B+ Heroes!
With one week left in the year, I can report that YOUR foundation will help OVER 2,500 families of kids with cancer in 2018. You have made it possible for these families to focus on their innocent child's battle with this horrible group of diseases.
Paying it Forward
When we started The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation back in 2007, we printed cards that we called "Pay it Forward" cards.
1,000th Talk
When Andrew went to Heaven, Chris, Ali, and I started The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation to fight childhood cancer by funding research and helping families of kids with cancer pay their bills.
SIOP 2018 - No Child Should Die of Cancer
The 50th Congress of the Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique (SIOP) was held about 10 days ago in Kyoto, Japan. I had the privilege of attending and it was fascinating.
Game Changers
The school year is a REALLY busy time of the year for us here at The B+ Foundation...and that's a great thing.
B+ Hero Updates
Last Friday, I shared with you the special bond between a young B+ Hero, Aryn, and her "big sister" from Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Delaware, Sam Friedman.
Lifelong Connections
Please read this beautiful letter from a B+ Hero Mom, Shannon. Please keep Aryn's 'big sister', Sam, in your prayers.
Rollercoaster
When we were in the hospital, we were warned that the ‘journey’ was going to be like a rollercoaster with many ups and downs. For the record, I really don’t like rollercoasters.
September is Here - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month AND Andrew's birthday month. One week ago today was Andrew's 26th birthday. Its' SO bittersweet because we had 14 AMAZING birthdays with Andrew here and, sadly, the last 12 apart.
Fun for Our B+ Heroes
We've had some cool experiences to highlight for some of our B+ Heroes. On Saturday, August 18th, the DelVal BMW Club held their annual B+ Day at the Track at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ.
Our Families Need Your Help!
In the past two weeks alone, I've signed over 150 checks to help families of a child with cancer avoid eviction, keep their car so that they can take their child to the hospital for chemo, purchase necessary medicine that insurance won't cover, keep the electricity on, and sadly, assist with funeral expenses so that families can send off their child in a timely and dignified manner.
Andrew...and More!
It's taken me 10 days to write this and I apologize for that. Ten days ago marked the 11th 'anniversary' of my son's passing. Kids just should NOT die! Under any circumstances.
From the 49th State to the 1st State
A year ago this week, The Today Show did a nice feature on The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and we were stunned when they presented us with a free cruise to Alaska!
